Poker Etiquette
Whether online or in a Casino, there are certain "rules" you want to follow in order to make the game enjoyable for everyone else at the table. The OPG has written up a list of some things to follow, to help you win some money. But first, some reasons why it is a good idea to follow our advice: - To keep the attention off you; if you are the quiet one as oppossed to the loud and obnoxious player, then the focus will not be on you, leaving you many opportunities to win more money. - If you make everyone have a good time, then they will not mind losing their money to you, as long as they are having fun.
- Chatting at the tables should be in English only; or the language that is being spoken at the table by all players. - You may not discuss a hand while it is still being played. This even refers to making a groan when the turn shows because a player who is still active in the hand may infer something about the groan which may give him false information. - Refrain from using abusive words. - Never yell at a player. - Be humble in victory or defeat. - Do not make string bets. - Learn the game before you play, especially at higher-limit games. Do not act out of turn, whether it be raising or folding. - Try not to give advice to other players, as they may look at this as disrespectful, even though you may have good intentions. There are many opinions in poker and, especially after a bad beat, the losing player does not want to hear another player give him advice on how to better play that hand. - Try to avoid choosing nicknames that are offensive; this is for online play only. - If a player is lagging, it's okay to bring it to his attention, but do it in a friendly fashion. Most times the lag is not under the players' control but he may appreciate you letting him know, as often a lagging player will actually think the whole game is running slow, not realizing it is them making it slow; this is for online play only.
